What is the best pet grooming hair dryer for cats and dogs for the money?

Dogs and cats are experts on making a mess wherever they are. Be it by dragging litter wherever they walk, bringing the mud from the backyard, or simply by shedding, there’s no pet owner alive who isn’t familiar with the hard work it takes to keep a house clean and organized when your family has some four-legged members.

And then, when it comes time for a bath… oh boy. Yeah, if the washing itself doesn’t fill you with dread, then the whole drying part of it probably does. Wet fur, hair all over, and your poor little friend trying to make a break for it, aiming for the comfortable couch, not caring that they’ll get everything soaked in water.

But what if I told you that buying a pet grooming hair dryer might solve all these problems?

A good grooming dryer can not only help dry your dog faster, but also help with shedding and prevent matting of the fur, as well as skin problems like hot spots.

After doing some research on the subject and looking through listings on Amazon, I was able to find safe and home-suitable pet grooming hair dryers that might just be a perfect solution for your problems and ultimately settled on the K-9 II Dog Grooming Dryer as the best pet grooming hair dryer for the money.

Benefits of Buying a Pet Grooming Hair Dryer

Before buying any grooming dryer and using them on your beloved pet it is very important to learn how to properly use the product so not to cause any unintentional harm. But once you learn to use it so safely, you’ll find that there are many advantages to having your own pet grooming dryer at home.

One of them has to do with a certain problem some pet owners have to deal with it every day: Shedding. If you have a big fluffy dog, or a cat with a beautiful long coat, you know what it is like to check your clothes to make sure you’re not taking some of your pet with you when you got out. Besides helping your dog dry fully faster so they won’t get the house wet, having a grooming dryer can also help remove dead hair will diminish the amount of lovely pet fur that you find all over your house.

But how do you choose the right one?

What Makes a Good Pet Grooming Hair Dryer Safe?

This was the question I kept asking myself as I researched these products and learned more about pet grooming hair dryers. My primary concern was safety, and I made sure to look into different types of grooming hair dryers, how they worked, and what professional groomers and pets thought on the subject to make sure the products included in this review were safe.

Finding something that you can easily store at home was another factor to consider. If you are drying your own pet, chances are you are not interested in cage dryers and might not have the space for standing ones. Finding something that you could have tucked away somewhere and then easily take it out once you needed made forced air dryers the ideal option.

After reading a lot about the dangers of overheating, I tried to focus my search on ones that do not have heaters. Therefore, none of the dryers featured in this review have a heating system – though warm air might still come out of the hose, you’ll be able to keep it in check, and it probably won’t reach temperatures that will be harmful to your pet. The dryers listed below are convenient to use, easy to keep at home, and, most importantly, safe to use on your four legged friend.

Best Pet Grooming Hair Dryer – K-9 II Dog Grooming Dryer

Key Specifications

  • 21 x 8 x 13 inches
  • 26 Pounds
  • 10-foot hose
  • Includes blower tip and filter
  • Two Speeds

  • Good for large dogs
  • High power
  • Fast dry

  • Expensive
  • Lack of adjustable air flow

When you first come across the K-9 II Dog Grooming Dryer on Amazon, the price might scare you a little bit. It is very understandable to hesitate when the listed price is over $400. But you get what you pay for, and in this case what you pay for is a powerful, efficient and safe grooming dryer for your pet.

Good for both drying or simply blowing air, this product works great with large breeds and double coated ones, which means you can dry them quickly and manage all that pesky shedding. Its high power can be double-edged blade, though; while it allows you to get the job done faster, it might be too powerful for smaller pets.

Cheaper Alternative – XPower B-2 Pro-at-home 2-in-1 Dog Grooming Pet Force Dryer and Vacuum

XPower B-2 Pro-at-home Pet Dryer

Key Specifications

  • 13 x 6 x 9 inches
  • 9 pounds
  • 6 Nozzle Accessories

  • Light weight
  • Energy efficient
  • 2-in-1 function (blower and vacuum)
  • Small and easy to store
  • Quiet

  • Underpowered
  • Vacuum feature does not work that well

I actually considered recommending this as the best option. Made especially for home use, the XPower B-2 is small (which makes it easy to store it somewhere when not using it), lightweight, energy efficient, and quiet when compared to other grooming dryers (keep in mind that it will still make quite a bit of noise, but it is not nearly as loud as the other similar products). Plus, it also has a vacuum that can be used to clean up excess hair and dust once you are done using it on your pet.

However, its nice compact design also makes it a little underpowered. This may not be a problem if you have a smaller and short-haired pets, but for big dogs and animals with thick undercoats? Yeah, not ideal. It will take a long time to dry them fully and properly. The hose also seems to get a little warm after a while – not hot enough to harm your pet (this product does not contain a heater), but it might make it holding it for large periods of time uncomfortable.

Also, although the vacuum feature is nice to help with cleaning up, due to the machine being underpowered, it doesn’t work as well as a proper vacuum (the sellers themselves recommend it only for a quick clean up afterwards).

Metrovac’s Air Force Commander Professional Dog Grooming Pet Dryer – Premium Alternative

Metrovac Air Force Pet Dryer

Key Specifications

  • 12″ x 7″ x 7″ inches
  • 6 pounds
  • 6-foot hose
  • 12-foot cord

  • Lightweight
  • Portable
  • Power adjustment

  • Very Noisy

This third option is a great compromise between the two previous ones. It has a good power that makes it easy to dry large breeds while also being small and compact enough to be portable and easy to carry around. It will definitely help dry your pets fast and effectively, and it should also get rid of that dead hair so you won’t have any shedding problems in between uses.

But it can be loud, very loud. While noise is expected with force air dryers, the high power of this product can scare certain pets, which in turn might make the whole drying process more stressful than it should be (which is not what you’re looking for when you are buying something that is meant to make your life easier).

Price wise, it is decent enough. At roughly $168, it sits right in between the other two above options; not nearly as expensive as the K-9 II Dog Grooming Dryer, but also not as cheap as the XPower B-2.

XPower B-55 2HP Portable Home Dog Dryer – Budget Alternative

Metrovac Air Force Pet Dryer

Key Specifications

  • 3 x 5.2 x 8 inches
  • 7 pounds
  • 5-foot hose
  • 3 nozzles

  • Lightweight
  • Energy Efficient
  • Vacuum for cleaning up

  • Noisy
  • Underpowered

Cheap, lightweight, portable, energy efficient… This is a great bargain alternative for those who are looking for a dryer but don’t have a big budget. Like the XPower B-2, this grooming dryer has an excellent compact design that makes it easy to store it somewhere when not in use. It is also easy to carry around, and it has that nice little vacuum feature for a quick clean up after you are done drying your pet.

However, it also inherited the XPower B-2’s greatest weakness in that it is too underpowered. It might suit smaller pets just fine, but if they have a nice long coat, or if they are a big dog, drying them fully with this will be a massive chore. And, unlike it’s slightly more expensive relative, this model does not boast a quiet feature. So it can get loud, which can end up scaring your pet and making them want to run away, which in turn will make the whole drying process take even longer, and considering this is not an overly powerful machine… Yeah, I think you get the idea, right?

Also note that according to the seller the XPower B-55 will get, at most, 20F hotter than the room. So if you are planning on using this during the summer or you live at a very warm place, make sure to monitor the temperature of where you are, just to be safe.

Still, at only around $69, it is the cheapest air force grooming dryer that I found, and if you have a smaller pet that does not have thick undercoats, and is not all that bothered by noise, than this might be a good alternative.

Nightmares are made of soaked furniture and fur at every corner. Matted hair and long hours brushing, drives to the groomer. A sure way to help keep your pet healthy and beautiful and your house clean and organized is to invest in a pet grooming hair dryer.

My review focused on forced air dryers that do not have a heating system so that overheating dogs would not be an issue. When looking at all factors, the K-9 II Dog Grooming Dryer is a clear winner. Though more expensive, it has good power that will give a fast dry for larger pets that have thick over coats.

That is not to say that the others do not have their advantages. Depending on the type of pet you have, and what budget you are working with, you might find some of the other options in this review suit your needs better. But either way I believe you’ll find that once you learn how to properly and safely use one (and I cannot stress enough how important it is to do this first) you’ll see how there are numerous advantages to having your own grooming pet dryer.
